Arrival in The Gambia
Shelby Tarutis left Seattle on Thursday, January 23, 2003 and arrived in The Gambia on Sunday, January 26, 2003. She is beginning the process of preparing for the arrival of the book container and the installation of the rice milling machine. Shelby has met with representatives of the rice milling machine provider to schedule its installation in Dankunku. In addition, arrngements are underway to construct the platform for the milling machine. At present, plans are to deliever and install the machine in approximately one week.

Tomorrow Shelby will be meeting with the GambiaHELP Country Director to discuss the scope of her visit and to schedule her time for the reminder of her trip. She will also be meeting with government officials to obtain duty waivers for the container and to begin the process of arranging the transportation of the books and medical supplies once the container arrives.
